Me-Say, You-Say

Unclear on the Concept
The WSJ reports in Best of the Web:

"Students have vowed to protest or block North Carolina State University's Free Expression Tunnel until the university's chancellor gives guarantees that no hate speech will be allowed there," Raleigh's WRAL-TV reports:

[Sophomore Monique] Bonds said that graffiti demeaning many different groups is common in the tunnel.
"It's free expression, but nobody is walking through, regulating it," she said. "They're just letting it happen, and it's not just racism, but gender, sexuality and religious discrimination."
And that is too delicious not to count as todays Quote of the Day

"It's free expression, but nobody is walking through, regulating it."  -- Monique Bonds

Without a clue.

San Francisco is a haven for this sort of non-free expression.
That's not all! The Board of Supes just banned Happy Meals, unless a detailed nutritional regime is followed.

The new watchword is "Food Justice."

Seems we Americans are starving and in dire need of SNAP food stamps, and simultaneously so obese we cannot be allowed to eat what we enjoy.

It all falls under the category of 'nanny state'.

Yep, it's a famous quote, that the worst oppressors imagine they're doing it for your own good.
In other words, for leftist intellectuals, everyone but them are basically children.

"Unclear on the Concept"

It seems more like the Vietnam protesters.

It's not that they don't understand; they're just on the other side.

While it's good (and sometimes seems all too rare ;)) to remember that disagreement and incomprehension are not the same thing, the choice of conjunction seems to hint at the latter, as if she had declared, "I got up early this morning, but I didn't sleep in."

She's in college.

The difference between "free" and "regulated" is established during your first day at kindergarten.

And some people apparently spend years trying to unlearn it!

More seriously, yes, she's clearly for regulating the tunnel; apparently the usual solution of painting over whatever you don't like does not satisfy her.

Yeah, what is her problem?
If whitewash was good enough for the Clintons...

I suppose that was silly of me, as presumably regulating the tunnel would take the form of painting over things... unless she wants armed guards or cameras or something.

Not to romanticize the Free Expression Tunnel. It's the designated graffiti dump. Stuff gets painted over all the time, by the next person who dislikes it enough or just wants the space.

But! But! But!

Freedom is good.

So all expressions of freedom must be good.

If they aren't, they must be made good!

Monique Brown is just as free to paint over the offending graffiti herself.
Thank you for the laugh, sir.

Why does it always have to be on the other side of the country? These people clearly need to be mocked in person. Damnit, and I just don't have time for a road trip right now.
